Sakura-Con 2011 - Special Guests

A whole array of famous individuals from Japan visited Sakura-Con this year, in addition to a large amount of voice actors and artists from across the world. I was lucky enough to be able to get photos of Kotono Mitsuishi and artists VOfan and Jo Chen. I also attended the Exist Trace concert, which will be covered in another post due to the amount of photos.

Kotono Mitsuishi:

In 1988, Mitsuishi made her seiyῡ debut as Tomoyo in the OVA Ace wo Nerae! 2. She became an instant celebrity with her role as Usagi Tsukino when Sailor Moon debuted in 1992, and her popularity increased again with her role as Misato Katsuragi in the anime TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion. She is considered one of the most influential seiyῡ in the business; the animated adaptation of Ebichu was largely produced because of her interest in the project.

Kotono Mitsuishi's home town is Tokyo, her birthday is December 8, and she reports her hobbies as Pera Club Theatre School Institute for Japanese voice acting, Katsuta narration, shopping, watching movies, and Touwaisumoningu (breakfast twice).

VOFAN is the first Taiwanese digital artist to successfully enter the Japanese anime industry in the past five years. VOFAN was first introduced to Kodansha (The largest publisher in Japan) by MAXPOWER (a Taiwanese publisher) in 2006, to work as the main novel illustrator and character designer for NisiOisin's (西尾維新) popular light novel series Bakemonogatari (化物語). Due to the novel's huge success, VOFAN continued to draw for NisiOisin's remaining novel series, including, "Kizumonogatari" (傷物語), "Nisemonogatari" (偽物語), "Nekomonogatari" (猫物語) and "Kabukimonogatari" (傾物語). Even in a recent popular anime series, "Oreimo" (My Sister Can Not Possibly Be This Cute!!), VOFAN was also staffed as the ending theme song illustrator in the final episode twelve.
VOFAN's vibrant and colorful art style has attracted many loyal fans in Taiwan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Japan, and he is appraised as "The Magician of Light from Taiwan" (台湾からの光の魔術師) in the Japanese anime community.
Beside his novel illustration works with NisiOisin, VOFAN also is involve in gaming/anime magazine cover illustrations such as Famitsu, Frontier Magazine, etc. In addition, VOFAN teaches CG classes in Taipei National University of the Arts.
As of now, VOFAN has published a total of four illustration art books: Colorful Dreams (three volumes) and OTONA FANTASY (one Volume), with all his best personal works included.

Jo began illustrating and publishing professionally at age 14 in Asia before emigrating with her family to the U.S. in 1994. Since then, she had launched her professional career and made herself into one of the best known cover comic artists in United States. She had worked with comic powerhouses such as Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Wildstorm and had even forayed into the gaming industry with her box cover design for XBox's FABLE Trilogy.

She is best known for her work as the cover artist for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Runaways, Street Fighter series, Star Wars, Hellboy, New Avengers and more!
Of course, she had also ventured into working the interiors . penning Wildstorm's Racer X mini-series and Robotech, Dreamwave's Darkminds Macroplis. She also dabbled in a Battle of the Planets and Witchblade cross over for Top Cow comics. Jo's seinen manga, The Other Side of the Mirror, was re-published in English by TokyoPop.

Currently, she is enjoying immense breakout success of her BL venture with her circle "Guilt|Pleasure", under her handle TogaQ, while continuing her commercial vocation.
